Gold Crest or Penta Square: which one to actually stay in

Most people who message us have already picked DHA. What they haven't picked is the building. That's the harder question, and it usually comes down to two things: how bad your airport run is, and whether you can get food, a workout and the day-to-day stuff without calling a car.

We manage apartments in both Gold Crest and Penta Square. Here's how they actually differ.

Start with the airport, because that's where the trip starts

Allama Iqbal International Airport sits on the far side of the city from DHA. From Penta Square in Phase 5 you're looking at about 30 minutes. From Gold Crest in Phase 4, closer to 35.

Five minutes sounds like nothing. At 2pm it is nothing. At 3am, after a delayed flight, with the kids asleep on their feet and four bags in the boot, it's the difference between everyone going straight to bed and one more round of "are we there yet" in the dark.

Gold Crest: you can go a week without leaving the building

The apartments sit right above Gold Crest Mall — that's the whole point of the place. Shops, phone repair, a bite to eat: downstairs, not a drive away.

There's a gym in the building too — Oxygym, which bills itself as one of Pakistan's original fitness clubs — so you're not googling gyms in a city you don't know. If you're travelling with kids, Funation is in the same mall: indoor rides and arcade games, which on a smoggy afternoon buys you a couple of hours of peace. There's even Space Padel up on the 4th-floor terrace if you play. Phase 4's commercial area is about 3 minutes away, and Packages Mall is around 20 if you want the bigger shops.

Penta Square: the same idea, closer to the middle of things

Main Boulevard is about 2 minutes out. Cafés on the ground floor. Around 30 minutes to the airport on the more direct run. Our units sit on the upper residential floors, above and away from the mall traffic below — so you get the location without the noise following you up.

What's the same in both

The bones don't change between the two. Round-the-clock reception, lift access and covered parking. Our apartments in both towers are on the upper residential floors, not down at mall level, so the crowd and the noise stay below you. And because we run the units ourselves, one person answers whether the AC trips at midnight or you've locked yourself out at 6am — you're not chasing a landlord who lives in another city.

If noise is what you're weighing, that's a floor question more than a building question. Ask us for a unit higher up and off the boulevard side, and we'll tell you which line of the building actually stays quiet — it's not the same in every tower, and it's the kind of thing you only know from managing them.

The part nobody mentions

Living above a mall has a cost, and the cost is the weekend. Friday and Saturday evenings, the lifts get busy and the parking fills up. Come back at 8pm on a Saturday and you'll wait for both. Worth knowing too: the mall keeps regular hours — it's not a 24-hour high street downstairs — so a 1am craving still means a drive or a delivery, same as anywhere else in DHA.

So which one?

• Late flights, or here with older parents and kids? Gold Crest. The shorter walk to everything and the stuff-to-do-downstairs matter more than five minutes on the motorway.
• Here to be out and about — meetings, dinners, the boulevard? Penta Square. You're closer to the middle of Phase 5, and the airport run is the easier one.

When you message, send three things: your dates, how many people (and how many are kids), and your flight number if you've got one.
